HARMLESS @ Total-Nanosafe II Conference
From 6-8 November 2024, the beautiful city of Braga (Portugal) hosted the ‘Total-Nanosafe’ II International Conference, a great event bringing together global experts to explore the intersection of nanotechnology, human health, and environmental impact.
This year’s conference offered an in-depth look at the latest advancements in nanosafety, covering topics such as nanotoxicology, organ-on-a-chip models, in vitro-in vivo bridging, in silico methods, and the environmental effects of nanomaterials. The event showcased major trends influencing the future of nanosafety, emphasizing a dedication to the safe and sustainable development of nanotechnology.
With 25 invited talks, 4 short talks, and 3 keynote, the conference attracted more than 100 participants from all over the world, representing academia, RTOs and environmental authorities.
The event encouraged collaboration between researchers, industry experts, and policymakers, leading to discussions aimed at driving future innovations in nanosafety. Attendees had the opportunity to network and explore potential partnerships, offering insights that could influence regulatory frameworks and best practices in the field.
Our collegue Ulla Vogel, from NRCWE, delivered an impactful keynote on nanoparticle toxicology, focusing on occupational health risks related to nanoparticles, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and fertility impacts, including examples of risk assessment and regulation based on their work within HARMLESS.
Special thanks to Ernesto Alfaro-Moreno and International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) for the invitation, and congratulations on the well organised conferece!
