HARMLESS @ Bayes 2023
For three days, 25-27 October 2023, the Mitland hotel in Utrecht hosted the Bayesian Biostatics conference (Bayes 2023). The three days were full of interesting presentations and a 2.5-hour workshop on Bayesian analyses in biostatistics with a focus on pharmacy. Topics that were discussed were (1) the use of historic data as priors, (2) the use of multi-arm studies, and (3) how to deal with scepticism from governmental bodies on Bayesian statistics. In a relaxed atmosphere, there were technical and social discussions on Bayesian statistics and presentations. The technique of Basket Trial Analyses got extra attention through the workshop and presentations on how to use this in a trial setting. Around 70 people from academia and industry (J&J, pharmalex,…) joint the event.
Identified as a good place to discuss the more technical part of the Bayesian methods used in the HARMLESS Decision Support System for nano-exposure, our collegue Tanja Krone, from TNO, gave a short presentation in the rapid-fire session on 26 October. Under the title “Combining models using Bayesian Networks – Combining mechanistic models with data to optimise predictive power”, Tanja discussed how to combine different Bayesian networks into one to reap the benefits from both networks and data that belong to either or both networks.
Her presentation is available here.
