HARMLESS @ SETAC 2024
The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, SETAC, is dedicated to advancing environmental science and science-informed decision-making through collaboration, communication, education and leadership. We fulfill that purpose through events, publications, awards and education programs.
The 2024 edition, SETAC Europe 34th Annual Meeting, took place in the enchambring Sevilla (Spain) on 5-9 May 2024 under the motto “Science-Based Solutions in Times of Crisis: Integrating Science and Policy for Environmental Challenges”. SETAC is a global event which promotes multisector co-operation and communication between academic, industrial and regulatory stakeholders and ensures an appropriate platform for discussing safety and sustainability concerns on a global scale.
HARMLESS partners didn’t miss the opportunity of disseminating the project results with more than 3000 participants from academic, industrial and regulatory stakeholders, and meet many of our academic collaborators and commercial competitors. The sessions dedicated to nanomaterials, to advanced materials, to SSbD provided perfectly fitting topics for disseminating HARMLESS outcomes.
- Mona Connolly, from INIA-CSIC, presented a poster with the work from HARMLESS on fish and their use in hazard assessment for advanced materials. The title of her poster was “Ecotoxicity of Perovskites as Multi-component Advanced Materials (AdMs) in Aquatic Environments: from Cellular Effects to Acute Toxicity and Bioaccumulation Potential in Fish”.
- Veronica di Battista, from BASF, had an oral presentation on “Inhalation Hazard of Multicomponent Advanced Materials: a case of successful confirmation of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) by in vivo data“. Additionally she presented a poster with a short pitch presentation on the poster, with the title: “Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) strategies for advanced manufactured materials: a case study on perovskites for catalysis“) and a short pitch presentation
- Wendel Wohlleben, from BASF, had a poster on the AMEA tool.
- Colleagues from TEMASOL presented a poster on the HARMLES SSbD framework, its structure and its design principles. Title of the poster: “Safe and Sustainable by Design Framework for Advanced Nanomaterials: The Harmless Approach“.
